Gather all the wires and wrap them into an old coiled telephone handset cord. Remember to clip off the snap-in plug ends. • Door Chime Problems: Bells or chimes usually don’t work if their clappers or plungers are dirty. If the doorbell is dirty, the ring usually sounds muffled or muted. Take off the cover and inspect the points that strike the chimes or bells for dirt. If they are dirty, use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol or an old toothbrush in lighter fluid to clean them.
